Our Policies

Bue Bucks Ohio is committed to electing Democrats to the Ohio Legislature who believe in Democratic values and ideals. Putting individuals over corporations and special interests to make the lives of Ohioans easier will always be our top priority.

Our Democracy

When engaging in conversations about the issues that impact you at your kitchen table, no issue is larger than that of protecting and preserving our democracy. The fact of the matter is that without our ability to voice our concerns and vote for the individual who will stand by our side, we would not have the ability to advocate for the issues that make our lives better.

For over a decade, Ohioans have been forced to live with gerrymandered districts that have predominantly skewed political power toward Republicans. This has led to a lack of accountability where more extreme rhetoric and legislation continue to leave our state house with little regard to voter backlash for two main reasons: they enjoy safe districts that were drawn to benefit them and Democratic voters have been disengaged due to the inability to have our voices heard and our interests represented.

All hope hasn't been lost as we have made progress using our citizen-led ballot initiative and constitutional amendment process to secure wins including a redistricting commission, legalizing marijuana in the state, and protecting a woman's right to make decisions about her reproductive health. By passing a truly independent citizen-led redistricting commission in 2024, we can ensure fair maps are in place for 2026 where Democrats stand to make huge gains in the State House and State Senate. These gains can be used to start mitigating the damage caused by these extreme policies and protect our democracy from further erosion and attack by our elected officials so that we can start building the trust in the public needed to make our elections and political processes work.

Affordable Housing

Over the last decade, home prices and rents have continued to rise while wages have stagnated leaving Ohioans with less money at the end of the day. Blue Bucks Ohio is committed to electing candidates who will advocate for everyday Ohioans by urging county and local governments to pass meaningfuly and greatly needed zoning reform. These regulation changes would allow and create incentives to build more single and multi-family homes to ease the burden on would be home buyers and future renters.

We need elected officials who are willing to take a stand against corporate greed in Ohio. A recent spike in the number of single-home families being purchased by corporations has led to increased prices and less supply for buyers looking to purchase a home. The corporate rental properties not only impact home buyers but renters who are stuck paying higher rent prices. By creating a ban on corporations from purchasing single-family homes, we can allow potential buyers to have more options when considering a home purchase. This would lower the barrier to entry for would be buyers by creating lower home prices in a state where only 66.8% of Ohioans own the home they live in.

Climate Change

Our country and those around the world are at an inflection point when it comes to our climate. Ohioans should be doing our part to combat climate change and pollution to not only ensure a healthy environment for ourselves and our children but future generations. This starts by investing in and converting to renewable energy sources to heat our homes and power industry.

We need elected officials in Ohio who are ready and willing to work with new and would be businesses focused on renewable energies. In Ohio today, 87.7% of our energy comes from fossil fuels (Natural Gas, Shale Gas, or Coal). This has led Ohio to be near the bottom of the list for the amount of pollution we encounter on a daily basis and ranking 25th for the quality of our air and water. On average, Ohioans are under an unhealthy air quality warning for 107 days out of the 365 days in a year.

By investing in renewable energy, Ohio can lead the way in powering the midwest by allowing wind and solar farms to utilize under and unused farmlands across the state. We as a country also need to be investing heavily to modernize our nuclear energy capacities. By utilizing federal dollars, Ohio can retrofit outdated and soon to be closed nuclear facilities to keep those jobs in the state while continuing to power our state and nation without polluting the planet.

Education Reform

Since 1997, the Ohio Supreme Court Case DeRolph vs. State of Ohio ruled the state’s education model unconstitutional due to failing to provide and distribute adequate resources for quality education across the state, and for its over-reliance on property taxes. This means that for many, your zipcode mandates what type of education you’re able to receive, often disadvantaging our most marginalized communities in the state.

Blue Bucks Ohio understands the importance of a well-rounded education to create active, engaged, and educated citizens. Whether it be completing a K-12 education or going on to participate in higher education, vocational training, or an apprenticeship program, Ohioans deserve the chance to receive the best education possible.

We need elected officials who will invest in our children’s future to ensure every child, regardless of background or income, has a chance to receive a whole and well-rounded education to prepare them to enter the 21st century workforce and participate in the modern economy. This includes increasing public investments in our public universities and colleges to decrease the cost of attendance.

Public Safety

No Ohioan should have to worry about the safety of their families and themselves. We need elected officials who will invest in our community safety departments to ensure Ohioans see and feel seen by our public safety officers. Ohio ranks 19th in overall public safety nearing the bottom of the list when it comes to re-institutionalization of those who have been sent to jail or prison. We not only need to invest in our public safety departments but also invest heavily in our public health and mental health services. By providing better health and economic opportunities, we can decrease crime rates and increase Ohioans confidence in their ability to live peacefully in their own homes and communities.

Corporate Tax Rate

Ohio is just 1 of 6 states in the country without a corporate tax rate. Nationally, states have implemented an average corporate tax rate of 6.8%. By asking our corporations to pay their fair share, the state of Ohio will be able to offset the costs of programs needed to better the lives of Ohioans instead of watching as we fall farther and father behind from our neighboring states.
